Course Report
The 12th has the longest single green on earth at 127 yards, surpassing even St Andrews’ legendary double greens.
About
The European Club is an acclaimed links course designed by Pat Ruddy and crafted among the dunes of Brittas Bay. Known for strategic design, panoramic Irish Sea views, and deep bunkers, it offers an exceptional yet challenging golf experience, regularly rated among Ireland's top courses and attracting elite international players.
Caddie Tip
Local wind plays a major role, especially on approach shots; keep ball flight low and favor the left side on 12 and 13 to avoid deep dunes and bunkers. Study pin placements before putting on the 12th, as distance control is vital for scoring. Prioritize accuracy over length on most par 4s from 7–13.
The Main Challenge
The toughest stretch of the course runs from holes 7 to 13, featuring lengthy par 4s and the formidable 13th par 5 with 15 strategic bunkers. Coastal winds impact play, especially on holes adjacent to the Irish Sea, requiring both careful shot placement and stamina to navigate the undulating terrain.
The Good
Golfers rave about the spectacular setting, breathtaking sea views, and strategic holes that challenge both professionals and enthusiasts. The blend of natural dunes, ingenious design by Pat Ruddy, and the feeling of isolation from civilization make every round at The European Club a memorable adventure.
The Not So Good
Some players note the ruggedness of the terrain can result in slow pace of play and physically demanding walks. Others mention the bunker depth and long green complexes can frustrate higher handicappers. Additional on-course restroom facilities and signage would improve the overall experience.
Signature Hole:
#
12
The 12th hole is a 459-yard par 4 that hugs the coastline, with dramatic tee views over crashing waves and features the world’s longest green, stretching 127 yards. Players drive from dunes to a putting surface larger than some entire par 3s, making approach and putting especially challenging.
Clubhouse
Amenities include a welcoming bar and restaurant, guest locker rooms, pro shop, and comfortable lounge seating. There are also changing facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi, and post-round dining with panoramic bay views.
Practice Facilities
The European Club offers excellent practice facilities including a driving range, putting green, and chipping area adjacent to the clubhouse, allowing players to warm up and hone their short game before teeing off.
