Course Report

The Boulders North Course is set among 12-million-year-old granite boulders, some of which directly impact play on several holes, providing a natural hazard unique in all of Arizona.

About

Designed by Jay Morrish, The Boulders North Course offers stunning desert golf in Scottsdale with rugged granite rock formations, dramatic elevation changes, and smooth TifEagle greens. Renowned for its unique scenery, playability, and extensive amenities, it is frequently ranked among the premier resort courses in the United States.

Caddie Tip

Be mindful of the elevation changes and the effect of desert winds, especially on approach shots. On the front nine, carefully plan tee shots to avoid native vegetation and rocks, and use the yardage markers—distances can be misleading due to forced carries over desert washes.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect is precision off the tee, with forced carries, sloping fairways, and strategic native hazards demanding smart club selection and course management. Rough desert edges and bold bunker placements add extra challenge to recovering from poor shots.

The Good

Golfers love the dramatic scenery—especially the interplay of massive boulders, Sonoran flora, and panoramic desert views on nearly every hole. The distinctiveness of the landscape and thoughtfully routed holes make every round rewarding for visitors and locals alike.

The Not So Good

Some players feel the course can play slow during peak season due to high resort traffic, and tight desert corridors can be unforgiving for less accurate golfers. Occasional maintenance on bunkers or greens may limit pin placements at times.
